You MUST HAVE 1.08 WITH A LEGIT CD KEY INSTALLED, for this to work PERFECTLY!
If you do not, then the 1.08 features will not work properly, take note!

Obviously, download/run the "pre installer" before you run the main program
This is only v1, there will be more improvements to come:
you may notice by the pic above, that the initial installation may be a bitch for some of you, that will be an improvement in v2....

O.o of course, they're completely unrelated
what the program does is just swap EXE files (i'm working on a HEX editor version to save download time)

The best patch would be to only change the version number that is send to the halo server. Then you can play with all the patches from 1.08 but still join other versions. But you'll first need to learn assembler and some "reverse engineering".
But still good stuff!

i found simple hex edits that allow you to do that
i just editted the version number inside the hexes and voila, i'm playing another version
what a JOKE!
im implementing that for HPEVS v2, thanks for the heads up goemitar
