Halo PC & CE v.1.10 Installation Guide

Table of Contents:
  1. Introduction
  2. Version 1.10 Patch Notes
  3. Halo Installation (Legit CD-Key)
  4. Cracked Halo Installation (Non-Legit CD-Key)
  5. Halo Installation for Mac
  6. Halo Add-ons
  7. Halo Server Resources

I. Introduction:
- This guide is intended to help the lost and confused find their path back onto the Halo battlefield once again. In the current world of Halo gaming on the PC, most people play Custom Edition due to the enhanced server features that have been released. This guide will attempt to get you up and running on the game that this clan was founded upon. For peace of mind, all the important files that you need are hosted on XK's servers.

II. Version 1.10 Patch Notes:
- On May 16th, 2014, Bungie officially released the v1.10 patch in order to keep Halo alive through the Gamespy master server shutdown. The patch also included a few maintenance fixes such as support for resolutions up to 4800x3600 as well as enabling liquid camo on Nvidia cards. If you are interested in reading the full press release by Bungie as well as the full change log, open the spoiler below.

Spoiler: show
Bungie is pleased to present a new update to Halo PC (and Custom Edition). The patches and dedicated servers are linked below. In a couple days once more servers have come online, the auto-update notice will be displayed in game.

As you might have heard, the Gamespy service that has provided our server list these 11 years is shutting down at the end of the month, and prior versions of the game will no longer be able to browse for internet multiplayer games. Community member btcc22 has valiantly written a new server-browser application for Bungie to host and support in-game via this patch.

This update also contains a number of other small bugfixes, mostly relating to security or compatibility with newer hardware. Big thanks to community members Technut and kornman00, and btcc22 again, for helping to catalog and investigate these problems, making the job of fixing them much easier, and to the community who has helped test the patches.

Bungie believes in creating lasting social experiences, and while we're all enormously excited for the upcoming release of Destiny and hope you'll join us for that ride, we're also gratified by the ongoing enthusiasm for the original Halo, and glad to be able to help keep a good thing going.

  • Updated chatbox settings to work with newer resolutions
  • Models node limit updated to 63
  • Fixed reading sv_ban_penalty from init.txt
  • Disabled executable_is_valid checksum from strings.dll

III. Halo Installation (Legit CD-Key):
- If you are installing either Halo PC or Custom Edition and have a legit CD-Key, then use the instructions below. If you need to install using the cracked versions, skip to the next section below.

Steps:
  1. Download the game that you want to install [Halo:PC] [Halo:Custom Edition]
  2. Extract the files from the .zip folder and run the setup.exe program to install.
  3. After installation, there are two methods to update your game to version 1.10. You can EITHER download the patch automatically from within Halo by going to the Internet Lobby and accepting the prompt to update OR update manually by downloading the appropriate patch from Bungie and running the .exe files [Halo:PC Patch] [Halo:Custom Edition Patch]
  4. If you have old mods installed in your Halo directory then the update may fail to install or may crash after installing. To be safe, remove any mods first to get back to a stock Halo install. When you are finished updating Halo then look for new updated versions of your mods.

IV. Cracked Halo Installation (Non-Legit CD-Key):
- For those of you who have either lost your CD-Key or were too cheap to buy one to begin with, this is the section for you. These instructions will allow you to play the game however advanced server side tools may keep you from joining certain servers. Thus you gaming experience using this method comes with no guarantees.

Steps:
  1. Download the game that you want to install [Halo:PC] [Halo:Custom Edition]
  2. Extract the files from the .zip folder and run the setup.exe program to install.
  3. When prompted to enter a CD-Key, enter one of the following provided in the spoiler box below so that installation may proceed.

  5. Applying The Crack: Download the appropriate crack for the game you have installed [Halo:PC - v1.10 Crack] [Halo:Custom Edition - v1.10 Crack]. Extract the contents of the .zip archive to your game's installation and overwrite the existing files.
  6. This crack contains HAC 2 files so that you can download custom maps automatically. If you have problems when trying to run the game, check the HAC section below for troubleshooting tips. Alternativly, you can delete HAC 2 by deleting the Loader.dll in the control folder.

V. Halo Installation for Mac:

Work in Progress

VI. Halo Add-ons:

HAC 2 (Halo Anticheat 2):
- HAC 2 is a both a powerful anticheat tool and an extended function tool that allows players to do things the player of the original game would have never though possible. To find out more, it is best to check out their website.
- Troubleshooting = http://blog.haloanticheat.com/?page_id=54
- Commands:
Spoiler: show
Key shortcuts (will be configurable in the near future):

Bookmark Controls:

F4 – Add current server to bookmarks.
F5 – View bookmarks.
Alt + bookmark number - Join bookmarked server.
Delete + bookmark number – Delete a bookmark.
Ctrl + Alt/Delete + bookmark number – Selects bookmarks in the range 11-20 (example, ctrl + alt + 4 will join bookmark 14).

Field of View Controls:

F6 – Change field of view. Move the mouse up/down to control it. Press F6 again when you’re done.
Left shift + F6 – Reset field of view to the default (70).

HUD Color Controls:

F9 – Set the HUD colour.
Shift + F9 – Reset the HUD colour

Sightjacker Controls:

F7 – Enable/disable the sightjacker.

Console Commands:

  • hud_widescreen 0/1 – Turn HAC 2′s HUD scaling fix on/off. The default is on.
  • play_during_queue 0/1 – Allows you to remain in the current game until a free slot is available in the bookmarked server you attempted to join.
  • draw distance – Distance is the number of world units to draw. The default is 1024 and HAC uses 4096 for maps that benefit from increased draw distances.
  • recalculate “map name” – Recalculates the checksum for the given map. This is aimed at map makers that don’t want to use the cached checksum during development, given that the checksum will change with each compile. Use quotation marks for map names with spaces.
  • budget_show 0/1 – Displays the current number of BSP polygons being drawn and the remaining default/HAC budget. Once the limit is hit, any polygons that’d push the budger over the limit will appear has gaps in the geometry.
  • fov value in degrees – Can be used as an alternative to F6 for setting your field of view.
  • hac_flush_cache – Clear the entire checksum cache. There’s no real reason to use this but it’s there anyway.
  • copy – Copies the information for the current server to clipboard. This is useful for pasting the connect ip:port password information over Xfire/Steam etc.
  • copy bookmark number – Same as above except it copies the information for a bookmarked server instead of the current server.
  • devmode 0/1 – Toggles devmode on Halo CE.

SAPP:
- SAPP is the most powerful extension for the Halo PC and Halo CE dedicated server that also introduces no-lead to the game.
- To toggle no-lead in a SAPP enabled server, type the following commands into the server chat:
  • To Enable: /lead 1
  • To Disable: /lead 0
- Player Commands:
Spoiler: show
-- These are entered into to the in-game text chat by placing \ or / before each command.
  • info = Shows server name, amount of players, map, gametype and if scim mode is enabled or not.
  • stats = Shows your kills, assists, deaths, your kill/death ratio and the time since you are playing in the server.
  • sv_stats = Displays some cool stats about the server
  • about = Tells you the sapp version, and who made sapp.
  • whatsnext = Tells you the next map and gametype if there is sapp mapcycle set.
  • login = "V2" Admins can log in with this command so they can use chat too to execute admin commands.
  • afk = Only if enabled by the server admin (set its level to -1): You won't respawn after you died untill you type this command again. (So you can't be afk-killed)
